New Supreme Court Nominee Lacks Experience

by Kelly Phillips Erb on October 4, 2005

But does anybody really care?

Roberts didn’t have that much judicial experience and he was confirmed by an overwhelming majority as Chief Justice… And neither Warren nor Stone served as a judge before their nominations to the land’s highest court.

Notwithstanding, conservatives and liberals alike are mixed in their reactions to the nomination of President Bush’s former personal attorney Harriet Miers to the Court. Her lack of credentials and close ties to the White House will no doubt be the subject of considerable scrutiny.

I predict that these hearings will be much more complicated and time-consuming than Roberts’ confirmation.
