Following up on our most recent post about job applications and background checks, we’d like to know how much information you think employers are entitled to ask for when hiring a potential employee. Take our poll below:

I think applicants should realize that employers will check your profiles on social networks if they are able to. The german Facebook version StudiVZ has a default setting that makes your profile visible for everybody (and most people keep it open ). This plus the tendency of young germans to become members of groups like “I only drink on days that end on a G and Wednesdays” (every day except Wednesday ends on a g in the german language), leads to many uncomfortable situations when young applicants are getting confronted with a print out of their profiles during an interview. I think nobody has a right to ask for your password. That is like asking for the key to your mailbox. But a little profile clean-up before an interview could be smart.
