Bush Nominates Roberts for Chief Justice Position

by Kelly Phillips Erb on September 6, 2005

President Bush has nominated John Roberts, current Justice nominess, to replace Chief Justice William Rehnquist in the court’s highest position.

If confirmed, the nomination still leaves one position open on the court, following the resignation of O’Connor and the death of Rehnquist. O’Connor has indicated that she will stay on until her successor is confirmed so that the full court can convene in October.
