Bada Bing Bada Bongo

The Laptop Company, Inc. is apparently planning on trying to block Microsoft’s application to register the Bing trademark. According to its About Us page,  The Laptop Company provides access to products, particularly in the home and garden industry, through its website bongobing.com. The website is designed to look much like a search engine. When you type in a product name and then “Bongo It”, you are presented with product suggestions. Although The Laptop Company claims trademark rights to bongobing, it has never filed an application to register it with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Nevertheless, it is rumored that The Laptop Company plans on opposing the registration of Microsoft’s Bing trademark.

The USPTO has approved the Bing trademark for publication. The Bing trademark is scheduled to be published for opposition on August 18th, after which the public (including companies such as The Laptop Company) will have 30 days to file an opposition or file an extension for time to oppose.
